A white, button-down shirt is a staple for most women, but if you're tired of that same old look, change the ordinary shirt to something more spectacular. Anyone one can easily change the collar, cuffs and other areas of a dress or shirt by simply adding lace accents. No, you don't have to be an expert with a sewing machine to create the glitzy look. Simply purchase a piece of lace and some paints.

Lace comes in many different types. There is the type that is narrow, and dispenses from a roll, or even full size lace pieces that are cut by the yard, like fabric. Either one makes a great pattern for creating the lace shirt accents. The kind that dispenses from a roll comes in many different widths and will give you a completely different finished look than the kind of lace which is sold by the yard.

With the narrow lace you can make a lace design on cuffs, collars and more. This type of lace is edged on each side giving you a complete pattern. Lay the lace piece, in the width of your choice, on the area you want to change. Something rounded, like the cuffs, will require you to tape the lace strip in place. After the lace is in position use paint to fill in the holes of the lace.

Fabric paints, dispensed from tubes, can be placed on a paper plate or other pallette. Use a small foam brush to dab the paint onto the lace. The lace itself will cover certain area where the holes will allow the paint through in those areas. After covering the entire lace piece with paint remove carefully and dispose of it. Let the paint dry and you'll then have an exact replica of the lace, transferred to your shirt.
