When trying to find unique ways to decorate with lace, it is almost impossible to not get stuck in grandma-land. Now, for those that like the old-fashioned look, you can use white doilies on everything. They look great on end tables, coffee tables and bed side tables, as well as thrown across the arms of couches and chairs. The best part is that you can pick them up for a dime a dozen at garage sales, thrift stores and dollar stores. But for those who want to take these throwbacks to yesterday into the 21st century, read on to find out to add a touch of old world romance with modern flair in the public areas of your home.
Kitchen
One of the most unique ways to decorate with lace in your kitchen is to actually take the old-fashioned idea of lace tablecloths and doilies one step further. Buy the cheapest packs of doilies that you can find and dye them all to match your kitchen. You can use one solid color, a couple to contrast or go really wild and include every hue that is in the room. Now, if you are handy with thread and needle, sew them together in a patchwork style to create a truly individual tablecloth. If you do not know how to work with the delicate material, buy a cheap fabric covering and use fabric glue to attach them in any design that you want. Sew a few together for custom window valances and you have a complete designer look, for less than half the cost.
Bathroom
One of the most unique ways to decorate with lace in your bathroom is to use it as a shower curtain. You simply buy a liner in the color of your choice and hang a few yards of lace in front of it. The color of the liner show through and adds a beautiful contrast. If you are prone to redecorating, buy black or white lace and all you have to do is change the color of your liner to go with your new look. For those of you who are really handy, you can even get grommet kits and attach it the right way. But for those who cannot sew, you can simply bunch up the unfinished end and hang it from the hooks. This especially looks good with the shabby chic decor that is so popular nowadays.
